From Fish & Chips in Sam’s The Other Place in Fowey to 2 Rosette dining in the recently opened Austells at Carlyon Bay (check out the Sunday Evening Menu – great value at 3 courses for £25 and sure to become very popular in the coming months) and the Michelin rated Outlaw at The Marina Villa, Fowey (booking recommended before you arrive in the area) you are spoiled for choice with in a short drive. Of course the first place to mention is only a minute’s walk from the cottage being the Fisherman’s Arms with its new landlord and lady, Steve & Anne-Marie, who offer a good selection of reasonably priced pub fayre to suit all tastes. Only slightly further away is The Cormorant Hotel offering afternoon teas on the terrace and a range of lunches and evening dining.

There are numerous restaurants in Fowey to meet every need, from Chinese, pub food and several restaurants which would not be out of place in London. Should you wish to try Sam’s, which is very popular with the local residents, please be warned they do not take bookings so you may have to wait at popular times. However be assured your patience will be well rewarded. Lostwithiel also has a number of places to eat. Trewithan Restaurant is excellent for lunch or dinner and Grapevine for dinner only. As you drive through the locality you will notice that many pubs offer lunchtime snacks and evening meals. Most of the garden attractions also have fine tearooms, often serving food made with produce grown themselves. Please note, that you may be able to visit the tearoom without actually entering the attraction as is the case of the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Pine Lodge and Duchy Nursery, well worth a visit if you have the time.

Food

The main supermarkets can be found near St Austell, Bodmin and Truro. However, for Cornish fayre there is an excellent butcher in Tywardreath and in Fowey, along with a deli, several bakeries/pasty shops, and a very good fish shop. The closest place for those essentials is the garage at Four Turnings, on the road towards Fowey, or the Spa at Par, both open late.

Clothing

Several stores can be found in Fowey, including Sea Salt and Fat Face, offering a range of sailing, outdoors and casual wear. For high street brand, the best selection can be found in Truro, including Desire By Debenhams and Marks & Spencer.

Other

Several art, jewellery, and home décor shops can be found in Fowey, so what ever you are looking for, you are likely to find an unusual gift whilst walking the streets of Fowey. Art can also be found closer to home in the gallery close to the river near the car park in Golant and in the Hillside Studio as you come down into the lower section of the village. Lostwithiel also has a smaller range of unique shops selling gifts and antiques. As the main city in Cornwall, Truro has a wide range of shops from the main chains to boutiques. St. Austell has a smaller selection of shops which may be useful to drop into on your way back from The Lost Gardens of Heligan or other days out.

If you want to relax whilst in the area, there is an excellent beauty salon offering a range of treatments in Fowey, and there are several beauticians in St Austell, including The Beauty Room and also Phase 2 at Holmbush with nail, facial and hairdressing facilities.
